What is an Fetal echocardiography?

 

Fetal echocardiography is a test that uses sound waves to produce live images of your baby's heart. The image is an echocardiogram. This test allows your doctor to monitor how your baby's heart and its valves are functioning. The images can help them spot:

• Normal chambers

• fluid in the sac around the heart

• problems associated with the aorta, septum, valves

An Fetal  echocardiography is key in determining the health of the fetal heart muscle, especially in womb. It can reveal heart defects in unborn babies.

Taking an echocardiography is painless. There are only risks in very rare cases with certain types of echocardiography.

Use

Doctors have a effective tool in their efforts to diagnose and treat congenital heart disease—the most common birth defect in the Rural and Urban India. This is a sophisticated and sensitive ultrasound test known as “fetal echocardiography” can detect heart problems in a fetus as early as four months after conception. That gives doctors time to prepare for an emergency situation at birth, or even treat some problems before birth.

 

After an Fetal echocardiography

Your doctor will review your results after the test. The results may reveal abnormalities such as:

• Heart Chambers

• Heart defects like, ASD, VSD ect.

• Heart size

• Pumping strength

• Valve problems

       If your doctor is concerned about your results, they may refer you to a cardiologist. This is a doctor who specializes in the heart. Your doctor may order more tests or physical exams before diagnosing you.

If you’re diagnosed with a heart condition, your doctor will work with you to develop a treatment plan that works best for you.
